The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has directed that commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle operators, popularly known as “Okada and Keke” riders, respectively in the state, must be registered in the ongoing documentation exercise, which would end on 31st January 2022.

This directive was contained in a terse statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Patrick Ukah.

The ongoing biometric exercise to the operators, commenced in the state from May 2021. 

The statement said any operator that defaults in their registration before this period will be banned from plying the roads within the state.

The statement also said the operational hours for keke and okada operators in the state, is now restricted to 6am to 9pm daily. 

According to the statement, only registered operators on essential and emergency duties with valid means of identification would be exempted outside the stipulated period.

Anyone, the statement maintained, found in violation of the order, would be made to face the full weight of the law.
