Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, said he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Monday after meeting with Buhari at the presidential villa. 

Tinubu has also been in the news lately over calls for him to contest.

He however said he is still consulting and will inform Nigerians officially.

“I’ve informed the president of my intention but I have not informed Nigerians yet. I’m still consulting,” he said.

This now puts to rest, speculations in the media and public space whether or not the former Lagos governor would contest the 2023 presidential election. 

This also comes amid speculations that the APC is making plans to field former president, Goodluck Jonathan for the country’s presidency for a one-term of four years, so that he would return power back to the north.

Jonathan, who is from the south, Bayelsa State, to be precise, lost the 2015 presidential election to Buhari, who is set to complete his two tenure of eight years in 2023. 

The former president has, however denied such speculations.
